By June 13, 2018March 9th, 2020Parent Resources

When choosing a speech language pathologist, it is important to find a good match for your child. Asking the right questions can help you determine if the clinician is the right fit for you.

Are you an ASHA certified Speech Language Pathologist?

ASHA stands for the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. A SLP who is ASHA certified will have the credentials “CCC-SLP” after their name. Clinicians with this certification have met the academic and professional standards established by ASHA and have committed to maintaining their certification through professional development.

What will a session look like for my child?

Sessions should be individualized for each child. Some sessions will be play-based, whereas other sessions will be highly structured drill-based therapy. After discussing your child’s strengths, personality, and areas of need, an SLP should help you understand what a typical sessions will look like.

Can I participate in parent education?

At OWL Pediatric Therapy, we put parents in control. You should understand your child’s treatment so that you can support speech and language development at home. Our goal is to help you incorporate speech and language development in to your every-day routines.
